At Aroostook SAR, we are dedicated to providing search and rescue services across Aroostook County. Our mission is to ensure the safety and well-being of our community through effective and skilled response operations.
Aroostook SAR was founded in 2025 by a group of community members who recognized the growing need for a local organization dedicated to helping lost and injured community members.
Our team is made up of dedicated volunteers who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of those we serve. Volunteers attain search certification through prescribed state procedures and devote time to continuous skill building to bring their very best to every situation.
We are proud to partner with the Maine Warden Service who oversees all land search and rescue operations in Maine. From Maine Warden Service to local law enforcement and fire departments, our partners maximize our impact in the community.
Do you like being in the outdoors in Aroostook county and have a passion for helping those who are lost or injured in the wilderness?
Do you have strong integrity and work well in a team environment? Are you committed to continuous learning to refine your skills and those of the team? You don't have to be an expert or have prior experience, we will meet you where you are.
This $35 basic search and rescue (BASAR) online course is provided by the Maine Association of Search and Rescue (MASAR). It covers a lot of things you will need to know and is required to be completed by all SAR members in Maine. Don't worry if you don't remember it all, the classroom and field instruction you do with our unit will help you master these things.
This free course will help you understand the incident command structure for public safety and how various levels of government and first responders work together to achieve the common objectives to respond to incidents.
Give us a call or text and learn more. Any one of our members below will be happy to get to know you and let you know when you can join us at our next training. Complete and submit the volunteer application.
Unit Leader:
Daniel Livesey, 510-859-3629
Unit Recruiting Specialist:
Jess Babin, 207-227-4747
As you continue your training, review the minimum equipment list and take note of what other team members use and why. Don't be afraid to ask questions or ask for recommendations on what may be a difference in preference or performance. Don't stress about the perfect gear, bring what you have and learn as you go if something else will work better.
Look ahead to the training that will need to be completed and plan for it in advance.
After completing the online courses, classroom and field training, you will be tested on your abilities in both written form and through practical demonstrations. Once the unit training leader signs off on these completions for your certification, you may be notified when the Maine Warden Service requests searchers to support locating someone and bringing them to safety.
Thank you for your willingness to serve the Aroostook County community.
Your contributions help Aroostook SAR provide vital search and rescue services in our community. Search and rescue volunteers provide labor but need resources for equipment and training. Every dollar counts and makes a difference. Support our mission to serve those in need.
